Process Principle

Silica sol casting belongs to the lost-wax precision casting process. It forms high-quality silica sol molds through multiple cycles of dipping and drying the wax pattern. It is suitable for small, precision castings.

Sand casting, on the other hand, utilizes sand cores and sand molds for shaping. It is suitable for the production of large-volume, large-size castings.

Casting Quality

Castings produced by silica sol casting have high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish, achieving CT6 grade with low surface roughness values, potentially enabling net-shape or near-net-shape production without machining.

Sand castings have relatively inferior surface quality and dimensional accuracy, and may require further machining operations.

Cost and Efficiency

Silica sol casting has higher costs and longer production cycles, but is suitable for the production of high-quality, complex-shaped castings.

Sand casting has lower costs and shorter production cycles, and is suitable for the production of large-volume, simple-shaped castings.

Materials and Equipment

Silica sol casting uses premium materials such as imported zircon sand and zircon flour, as well as specialized dewaxing furnaces and high-temperature equipment.

Sand casting uses common sand and binders, with relatively simple equipment.
